Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC)

1. NCS, NPS, NSS & Allied Services Examination

This is the most prominent examination conducted by NPSC, akin to UPSCs Civil Services Exam.
It recruits candidates for posts such as:

• NCS: Nagaland Civil Service
• NPS: Nagaland Police Service
• NSS: Nagaland Secretariat Service
• Allied Services: Including posts like EAC (Extra Assistant Commissioner), DSP, BDO, SDO (Civil), Supply Officer, Labour Inspector, etc.

• Main Exam (Descriptive papers including General Essay, GK, and Optional Subject)
• Interview/Personality Test

2. Technical Services Examination

This exam is conducted for recruitment to specialized technical roles such as:

• Medical Officer (MO)
• Assistant Engineer (AE Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.)
• Food Safety Officer
• Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, and more.

Selection Process:

• Written Examination (subject specific papers)
• Interview

3. Secretariat Assistant and Other Non Gazetted Posts Examination

These recruitments are for clerical and administrative support posts such as:

• Secretariat Assistant
• LDA-Cum-Computer Assistant
• Typists, etc.

Selection Process:

• Written exam with MCQs and skill tests (e.g., typing/computer proficiency)

 

NPSC Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

• Conducted for NCS, NPS, NSS & Allied Services.
• Single Paper: General Studies (200 marks)
• Acts as a screening test for the Main Examination.
• Includes subjects like Current Affairs, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, General Science, and Reasoning.

2. Main Examination (Descriptive Type)

• Candidates who qualify in Prelims appear for Mains.
• Papers include:
  • General Essay
  • General Studies – Paper I and II
  • Optional Subject Paper I and II (choice based on candidates background)

3. Interview/Personality Test (Viva-Voce)

• Final selection stage for most posts.
• Assesses:
  • General awareness
  • Personality
  • Decision-making ability
  • Suitability for administrative roles

4. Additional Requirements

• Medical Fitness: May be required for Police/Technical/Health posts.
• Physical Tests: Applicable for uniformed posts like Police Services.

• Age Limit:
  • General Category: 21–30 years
  • Relaxations apply for SC/ST, ex-servicemen, and government employees.
